Rhythm and music
Rhythm is the steady beat in music that makes us want to clap, tap, and move!
Have you ever heard a song that made you want to tap your feet or clap your hands? That feeling comes from something called rhythm! Rhythm is the pattern of beats in music β like a heartbeat that keeps going, steady and regular. Music is made of sounds put together in a way that feels good to listen to, and rhythm is what gives music its special bounce and flow.
Here is a fun example: think about clapping your hands to "Happy Birthday." CLAPβ¦ CLAPβ¦ CLAP-CLAP-CLAP. Those claps follow a pattern β that pattern is the rhythm! Even if nobody is singing the words, you can still feel where the beat is.
Here is another example: imagine a big drum at a parade β BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM. Every beat comes at just the right time, steady and strong. That drum is keeping the rhythm so everyone in the parade knows when to march. Rhythm helps musicians play together and helps us all move at the same time!
Now here is something to think about: can you tap your hand on your knee right now and make a steady beat, like a clock going tick-tock? What does it feel like when you keep the beat going without stopping? π΅
